Biotechnology is developing
as one of the most challenging fields
in Biosciences with a great future.
It is one of the vastly developing fields
in our country. The need of Biotech
professionals is increasing day by day
as more number of biotech and pharma
companies are originating everywhere.
Keeping this in mind, our university
started a B.Tech Industrial Biotechnology
course during the year 2003. Due to
the overwhelming response from the students
side for this course, our university
is giving great support to this department
in order to make the department a centre
of

excellence.
The department started the M.Tech Industrial
Biotechology course during 2004 and
our First batch of M.Tech students came
out and joined various prestigious institutes
and companies in and around the state.
PhD programme in Industrial Biotechnology
was started during 2005. Presently around
10 PhD scholars are carrying out their
research work in various inter disiplines
of Biotechnology under the guidance
of 6 approved guides.

The Department has independent laboratories
for Animal Tissue Culture, Biochemistry,
Bio-Organic, Bioprocess, Bioproducts,
Cell Biology, Chemical Engineering,
Downstream Processing, Immunology, Microbiology,
Molecular Biology and Plant Tissue Culture.
The Department has 5L Bioengineering
Fermenter, PCR, Lyophilizer, Sonicator,
Cooling and Non-Cooling Centrifuges,
Deep Freezer, Gel Documentation system,
BOD Incubator, Carbondioxide Incubator,
UV Spectrophotometer, Different Electrophoretic
Systems, Ice makers etc., |

Inspite of
these, the department has 24 hrs dedicated
256 KBPS broadband internet connection
for both staffs and students use.
The department also have more than 200
books in the departmental library which
covers almost all the subjects in Biotechnology.
For the benefit of students the department
had put MoU's with various leading institutes
and companies in and around the state.

Research
Currently the department is offering
research programme on various biotechnological
disciplines focussing nature and benefit
of Biologically improved or cultivated
plants, antioxidant involved research
areas, toxicological studies related
to biometals(bioleaching), pathological
disease curing plants and their applications,
therapeutic proteins, industrial enzymes,
plant and animal tissue culture studies
etc.,
The above areas are currently more important
for mankind. Considering the above developing
research related studies, the department
faculty members have applied for various
government funding agencies like DBT,
DST, AICTE, ICMR etc., in order to carry
out their respective research works.
Our university also funds most of our
innovative research works to some extent.
