School of Infrastructure Engineering

Civil Engineering plays a vital role in urban and rural planning and infrastructure development. This course prepares the students to design and construct structures which include the residential, Industrial and Commercial. The course is divided into 8 semesters with theoretical and practical training. Civil Engineers are employed for planning, designing and execution of various national and international projects in construction industry / sector.

Institute-Industry Interaction:
The School of Infrastructure Engineering interacts with leading construction firms through M.O.U., in the fields of Structural Designs, Soil Investigations and Design of Foundations, Earthquake Engineering, Development of High Performance Concrete, Rehabilitation of Structures, Environmental Pollution Control Topics.

Teaching:
· Collaborations have been evolved with Structural Engineering Research Centre SERC, Taramani, Chennai, for teaching, training and for using their laboratories in respect of Experimental Stress Analysis for PG students.
· Collaborations have been evolved with Institute for Water Studies, Govt. of Tamil Nadu, Taramani for teaching, training and use of the software in the field of Remote Sensing and GIS.

Research:
· PG Students as a part of project dissertation work are engaged in research using the sophisticated experimental facilities at the well known CSIR laboratories.
 
Research Activities:

i) Aeration Technology in Waste Water Treatment.
ii) Use of Remote Sensing and GIS for Hydro Geological Investigation.
iii) Use of Remote Sensing and GIS for Irrigation Management Studies.
iv) Concrete Composites

Highlights:
· Every year final year students participate in the "Structural Design Competition" held by INSTITUTE OF STEEL DESIGN, CALCUTTA. A student project (Batch 1999-2003) was awarded SECOND PRIZE on the ALL INDIA COMPETITION for best Structural design.
· Development of Submersible Aerator in the field of Waste Water Treatment.
· Mr. Siva Raman of III year Civil Engineering (2003 - 2007) of our college was one among the 58 students selected to undergo one month summer camp organized by IIT Kanpur every year for the III year Civil Engineering students of all the Engineering colleges in India.
· School of Infrastructure Engineering was accredited by National Board of Accreditation as B- grade for 5 years.
· Designed and constructed the University Auditorium.
· Designed and constructed the new boys and girls hostels.
· Delivering Guest Lectures at Centre for Environmental Studies, Anna University.
